Looking back through PTS history, it is evident that passion, perseverance, integrity, and transparency were among the pillars that made up the firm business foundation we stand on today. These characteristics helped to foster the service-oriented culture we are very proud of at PTS Corp.
A Vision Born in Bloomington
PTS Corp, originally PTS Electronics, Inc., was founded in 1967 by Roland and Rosie Nobis, immigrants from Nuremberg, Germany. Roland, a young engineering graduate, spent four years at Grundig, Europe’s largest TV manufacturer at the time. Driven by curiosity and a desire for adventure, he arrived in the United States on September 13, 1962. Rosie soon followed, and the two settled in Bloomington, Indiana, where they married. Just three years later, the PTS story officially began.
Starting Small: Rono-Tuner is Born
In 1965, the Nobis couple launched Rono-Tuner, the forerunner of PTS, from their garage. Roland managed sales and technical work, while Rosie took on bookkeeping, shipping, and clerical duties. Together, they turned their small operation into a thriving tuner repair service. Overcoming language barriers and challenges, Roland's determination transformed PTS into the world’s largest tuner service within a decade.
A Key Partnership with RCA
In its early days, PTS became a trusted service partner to RCA, the world’s largest TV manufacturing facility, also located in Bloomington. This collaboration laid the foundation for PTS’s growth. In 1984, former PTS executives Jeff Hamilton and Jack Craig acquired the company, leading to significant expansion. The company began repairing VCRs, distributing passive electronic devices, and selling and servicing the Celestar satellite receiving system.
Adapting to Change in a Shifting Industry
The early 1990s brought challenges as government regulations disrupted the cable industry. Despite these obstacles, PTS adapted by evolving its services and business model. The company tackled new technologies like high-definition TVs (HDTV), impulse pay-per-view (IPPV), and electronic home integration. This adaptability ensured PTS remained a leader in the changing digital landscape.
Steady Growth and a Focus on Reverse Logistics
As the years passed, PTS grew into a national leader in aftermarket services, offering solutions across the consumer electronics industry. In 2008, PTS was acquired by ModusLink Global Services but returned to its former executives in 2017. Today, PTS specializes in reverse logistics, with expertise spanning mobile phones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, set-top boxes, and home security components.
